“I wiped it, washed it, dried it. The air got a little humid and that smell was back.”
Almost everyone with a cat or a dog has said this at least once. The stain goes, the odor stays.
Why does urine odor return after you clean it?
Urine is not only water; it carries urea and uric acid. Bacteria break down the urea, and that eye-watering ammonia smell is the result. The stubborn part is the uric acid: it crystallizes as it dries, does not dissolve easily in water, and stays deep in the carpet and the foam. When the air turns humid, the crystals release odor again.
Room spray only rides on top of the ammonia. The plant-derived essential oils (pine needle, anise, clove, cedarwood and lime) in ODORGO attract the odor molecules, bind them and turn them into a compound with no smell.
What do you do first with fresh urine?
- Press a paper towel or a dry cloth onto the spot to soak up the wetness. Do not rub.
- Wipe the area with water or a mild cleaner. Skip anything with ammonia; it smells like urine to the animal.
- Once the surface is dry, apply ODORGO Pet Odor Eliminator Spray 250 ml. Shake the bottle well first. Cover the area around the stain too.
- Let it dry. If the odor is still there, spray once more.
- If the odor has gone deep, wash: 50 mL of ODORGO Multi-Purpose Odor Eliminator Liquid 500 ml in the tank of a carpet and upholstery washing machine, or one capful in the detergent drawer of the washing machine, together with your detergent.
Do not start with hot water or steam; they can set the odor further into the fabric.
What do you do on which surface?
| Surface | What to do | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Carpet | Blot, apply Pet Spray; machine-wash if needed | Wipe the floor under the carpet too |
| Sofa, mattress | Spray, let it dry, repeat if needed | Check the underside of the cushion |
| Blanket, bed cover | Spray, then wash in cool water | One capful of Multi-Purpose Liquid in the detergent drawer |
| Hardwood, laminate | Wipe at once with 15 mL of Multi-Purpose Liquid in 1 liter of water | No water running down between the boards |
| Ceramic tile, grout | Wipe with the same mix, spray the grout | Grout is porous and holds odor |
The spray is water-based; you can use it on any surface that water does not harm. On water-sensitive fabrics and surfaces (unfinished or untreated wood, silk, leather, electronics, etc.), test on a small hidden area first.
How do you tell a male cat's marking from a urine accident?
If you find yourself saying “he doesn't go on the carpet, but that smell is always in the house,” it may be marking. The cat does not squat; he lifts his tail and sprays a small amount of liquid on a wall, a door frame or the side of the sofa. The smell is sharper than ordinary urine, and the oily secretion clings to the surface.
It is more common in unneutered male cats. A new animal or a move can also trigger it. The behavior side belongs to your veterinarian.
How do you find the marked spot?
In the dark, scan the base of the walls, the door frames and the sofa edges with an ultraviolet (UV) flashlight; marked spots glow faintly. Look at vertical surfaces a hand span or two above the floor.
- Wipe the spot from the outside in; the other way around makes the stain bigger.
- Apply Pet Spray once the area is dry. The oily residue may not go in one round; sniff the same spot again the next day.
What do you do around the litter box and the dog bed?
In the room where the litter box sits, leave ODORGO Pet Odor Eliminator Gel 250 g on a flat surface. Opening the lid is all it takes; it needs no electricity or batteries. It is used for up to 30 days in small, enclosed spaces. Keep the jar level.
You can spray the dog bed between washes. The litter side is in our cat litter odor post, and the puppy period is in the guide for new dog owners.
What is in the pet products, and what is not?
The pet spray and gel share one water-based recipe of plant-derived oils. The fragrance-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, dye-free, sulfate-free, and alcohol-free claims are verified by tests conducted at laboratories accredited by TÜRKAK (Turkish Accreditation Agency) and ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation). The manufacturer declares that no toxins or harsh chemicals are used in the formula. The products can be used in homes with children and pets; follow the warnings on the label.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why won't urine odor come out of a carpet?
Because the uric acid crystals in dried urine stay deep in the fibers. They give off odor again when the air turns humid.
Does room spray get rid of cat pee smell?
No. Perfume covers the odor for a short while, and the smell is back once it fades.
Can I use a cleaner with ammonia?
No. Ammonia smells like urine, so the animal may go on the same spot again.
How do you get rid of the odor a male cat leaves?
Find the marked spot, wipe the vertical surface as well, and apply Pet Spray once it is dry.
Does the Pet Gel go inside the litter box?
No. The gel is left on a flat, steady spot in the room where the litter box sits; it does not go in or on the litter.
