I am a man in my fifties who lives alone and shares his home with two cats. Work is busy, and some days I get in late. I love my cats, but honestly, cleaning the litter box every day, on time, often slips. I look up, two days have gone by, and the house smells heavy.
An automatic litter box made the cleaning easier but did not end the odor, and tracking deodorizer cartridges became a chore of its own. I needed something that runs by itself.
Which product fits which situation?
| Situation | What to do | ODORGO product |

| Automatic litter box | Set the gel where the box draws in air | Pet Gel 250 g |
| The house already smells | Spray the air and the smelly area | Pet Spray 250 ml |
| Urine spilled onto carpet, sofa or floor | Apply undiluted, directly to the spot | Multi-Purpose Liquid 500 ml |
Why does cat litter smell so bad?
The litter is not the problem. Cat urine is high in urea, and when it meets the litter, bacteria break the urea down fast and release that sharp, eye-watering ammonia gas. Sulfur compounds in the feces (mercaptans, skatole) add to it. Spray perfume over it and the molecule is still there; you have only fooled your nose for a while.
Why don't scented litters and sprays solve it?
My first mistake was the classic one: heavily perfumed, lavender-scented litters and room sprays. Once the cats had used the box, lavender and ammonia combined into a synthetic air that burned the throat. The cats also walk through that litter every day and lick their paws, and I did not want them breathing heavy perfume.
How does ODORGO neutralize litter box odor?
ODORGO made sense to someone as short on time as I am. A water-based formula built on five plant-derived essential oils (pine needle, anise, clove, cedarwood and lime) attracts the odor molecule like a magnet, binds it electrostatically and turns it into an odorless compound. This plant-based neutralization model is rooted in research at Delaware State University in the USA. It is not a perfume; the faint plant scent of the spray is gone soon after use. The Odor Glossary explains how absorbers and eliminators differ.
The spray and gel show up to 98% odor elimination effectiveness, and both are vegan.
What are the most common mistakes with litter odor?
- Heavily scented litter and deodorizers: they cover the odor, and strong synthetic perfume can bother a cat enough that it stops using the box.
- Scooping only the top: the urine collected underneath keeps smelling.
- Washing with ammonia-based or harsh cleaners: cats associate ammonia with urine, which can upset their litter habits. Use hot soapy water.
What is a low-effort routine for litter box odor?
- Scoop when you can. Take out the clumps whenever you get the chance, and once a week empty the box and wash it. With two cats, a second box spreads the load.
- Set the gel down and forget it. Leave an ODORGO Pet Odor Eliminator Gel 250 g standing flat beside the litter box, or in front of the point where an automatic box draws in or blows out air. The lid goes back on and the gel meets the air from under it, so a curious cat cannot reach the gel and eat it. No batteries, no outlet, no cable for a cat to chew through; it works quietly 24/7. It lasts up to 30 days in small, enclosed spaces.
- Late, and the house already smells: shake the ODORGO Pet Odor Eliminator Spray 250 ml well and spray the air and the smelly area. It can go directly on the cat bed, the carrier, sofa or carpet surfaces that fur touches, and the empty box after washing; let it dry. If urine has spilled over, apply the more concentrated ODORGO Multi-Purpose Odor Eliminator Liquid 500 ml undiluted, directly to the spot.
The spray is water-based; you can use it on any surface that water does not harm. On water-sensitive fabrics and surfaces (unfinished or untreated wood, silk, leather, electronics, etc.), test on a small hidden area first.
Urine odor that has soaked into a carpet or sofa is a separate subject: see how to get rid of dog and cat urine odor. For the rest of the house there is how to get rid of pet odor at home.
Keep your home fresh and your cats happy
Now when I skip two days there is no panic. The gel works in the background, and on the day I am late I pull things together with the spray.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you get rid of cat litter odor?
Take out the clumps whenever you can, wash the box weekly with hot soapy water, and leave an ODORGO Pet Gel beside it.
Does the ODORGO Pet Gel need batteries or power?
No. It works passively, so a power cut, a device breakdown or a chewed cable does not affect it.
Can my cat eat the gel?
No. The lid stays on the jar and the gel meets the air from under it, so a cat cannot reach it. Still, never put the gel on the cat or into the litter.
Can ODORGO be used with an automatic litter box?
Yes. Put the Pet Gel near the point where the machine draws in or blows out air, and spray the empty surface with Pet Spray when you clean the tray.
Why does my litter box smell?
Three reasons: the litter is scooped late, fresh litter goes into an unwashed box, or there are too few boxes (the rule is the number of cats plus one).
