You open the door and it is there: heavy, earthy, the smell of a place that has been shut too long.
You air the room and an hour later it is back. A candle or room spray only adds a second smell. A musty odor is telling you something: there is moisture underneath, and the smell returns until both are dealt with.
What causes a musty odor?
Moisture. Where there is damp, mold and bacteria grow, and they produce that heavy smell.

How do you prevent damp and musty odors?
- Find the source and repair it. A leak comes before everything else.
- Ventilate every day. Run the fan and open a window after showers and cooking.
- Use a dehumidifier where airing is hard.
- Leave gaps. Closets and storage rooms packed tight give the air nowhere to go.
What should you do about visible mold?
Black or green marks in a wall corner, on bathroom sealant or behind a wardrobe are the likely source of the smell. ODORGO is an odor eliminator, not a mold cleaner, so clean these first.
