Short answer: Car odor settles in both the upholstery and the climate (HVAC) system, so the two have to be treated together. Apply ODORGO PRO to the upholstery, trunk and door seals; in the same pass spray it into the vent intake, run the air conditioning on recirculation for 5 minutes, and let it dry without rinsing. ODORGO does not mask the odor; it neutralizes the molecule at its source. On leather and water-sensitive fabrics, test on a small hidden area first.

I have been in this trade for years, and we all know one thing before a car goes up for sale or back out on rental: the customer makes half the decision with the first breath after opening the door. If the car smells of cigarettes, the price drops in the customer's head before I say a number. For a fleet, cigarette odor in a returned car means a contract penalty and days when the vehicle cannot be rented.

Mirror air fresheners, coffee beans, heavy perfume: I tried them all and none lasted.

This post is for dealers, fleets and detailers. If you bought a used car for yourself, the consumer guide is how to get rid of lingering cigarette odors in your home or car.

Why is car odor so stubborn?

Odor does not settle in one place. Seats, the headliner, the floor carpet and the trunk lining pull the odor molecule in like a sponge. The other half sits in the climate and ventilation (HVAC) system: molecules collect on the evaporator and in the ducts and are blown back into the cabin every time you turn the key. So shampooing the seats alone falls short, and the odor is back in a few days. Cigarette tar, pet hair and urine, spilled food and dampness after water gets in all settle in these two places.

Why don't perfume and hanging air fresheners solve it?

A pine-scented card or a heavy perfume adds another smell on top; the molecule stays where it is. When the perfume fades a few hours later, the two smells blend and the customer reads it right away as cigarette odor someone tried to cover.

How does ODORGO neutralize the odor?

ODORGO is a water-based, plant-based odor eliminator. Its five plant-derived essential oils (pine needle, anise, clove, cedarwood and lime) draw the odor molecule in like a magnet, bind it electrostatically and turn it into an odorless compound. The pH band measured in the Safety Data Sheet (5 to 8 for the PRO formula) handles acidic odors such as cigarette smoke and alkaline odors such as pet urine (ammonia) at the same time. It does not pump a fake new-car smell into the cabin; the light plant scent you notice while spraying fades quickly.

How do you apply PRO in a dealership or fleet?

The main rule: treat the upholstery and the ventilation in the same pass, because the odor sits in both.

  1. Upholstery: spray ODORGO PRO Odor Eliminator Spray 500 ml on the seats, headliner, carpet and trunk lining until the surface is wet. On heavy spots or leaks (a cigarette burn, the pet area, juice from carried food such as fish) you can pour it on directly.
  2. Ventilation (HVAC): in the same round, with the engine off, spray PRO into the vent intake.
  3. Door seals: the rubber collects odor too, so spray it.
  4. Hard surfaces: spray PRO onto a cloth and wipe the glove box, door panels and trunk surfaces.
  5. Extraction washing: add PRO to the machine's water tank.
  6. Recirculation: start the engine and run the air conditioning on recirculation for 5 minutes so the product works into the ducts.
  7. Drying: no rinsing. Let it dry; the odor molecule is neutralized at the source as it dries.

Car waiting for sale or in storagePassive, continuous coverGel 250 g

For a car waiting for sale, leave an ODORGO Odor Eliminator Gel 250 g where the air circulates, such as under the front passenger seat or on the console, standing flat while the car is parked. Just open the lid; it needs no power or batteries and works for up to 30 days in enclosed areas of up to 15 m².

Which surfaces can you use it on?

The spray is water-based; you can use it on any surface that water does not harm. On water-sensitive fabrics and surfaces (unfinished or untreated wood, silk, leather, electronics, etc.), test on a small hidden area first.

The spray and gel show up to 98% odor elimination effectiveness. PRO is vegan.

The fragrance-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, dye-free, sulfate-free, and alcohol-free claims are verified by tests conducted at laboratories accredited by TÜRKAK (Turkish Accreditation Agency) and ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation).

Before handover

A few minutes per car is enough to keep odor from blocking a sale. Handing a car over honestly, with fresh air inside, protects the price and lowers the risk of returns and penalties.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should odor detailing be done before a used-car sale?

Apply PRO to all interior surfaces, the trunk and the door seals, spray the vent intake in the same pass, and run the air conditioning on recirculation for 5 minutes.

What is the fastest way to remove cigarette odor from fleet returns?

Treat the upholstery and the HVAC together, since smoke odor builds up in both. Wet the upholstery with PRO, spray the vent intake and the seals, and repeat for odor that has aged for years.

How do you clean odor from vehicles that carry pets?

Apply directly to the area, and pour if needed. Pet urine is an alkaline (ammonia) odor, and ODORGO handles it alongside acidic odors like cigarette smoke.

How do you deal with musty odor after flooding or water getting in?

Clean up the mold source and the moisture first; then PRO takes on the odor molecule in the upholstery and the air.

Does ODORGO damage leather seats or car paint?

It is water-based and is used on paint, plastic and ordinary fabric without trouble. On leather (aniline included) and water-sensitive fabrics, test on a small hidden corner first.
